Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Hardik Pandya have all been included for India’s team for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. The three most recently made an ODI appearance at the World Cup in 2023. The 15-man team released on Saturday afternoon (January 18) will be headed by Rohit Sharma with Shubman Gill serving as his deputy and features a significant inclusion in Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is yet to make his ODI debut.

Harshit Rana will participate in the three-match series against England

The choice of Bumrah is contingent on his fully healing from the back spasms he experienced during the fag end of India’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy, a campaign in which he put down an amazing 151.2 overs for his 32 wickets at 13.06. Harshit Rana will replace him for the three-match series, therefore he will not be fit for the beginning of the England series before the Champions Trophy.

However, Bumrah will be expected to lead a fast-bowling assault for the flagship competition that also includes the returning Shami, who was the top wicket-taker in the 2023 ODI World Cup but has lately been absent from international play following left Achilles tendon surgery. With Mohammed Siraj left out, Arshdeep Singh finishes the three-man pace assault.

India are well stocked in the all-rounder area with the return of Pandya, who missed the second half of the World Cup after sustaining an ankle injury in that tournament. Ravindra Jadeja is another guy who last played ODIs 14 months ago but provides variety with his left-arm talent. The two all-rounders on the team are Axar Patel and Washington Sundar, who were selected for India’s most recent ODI mission in Sri Lanka.

Kuldeep Yadav’s comeback to the team following her hernia surgery gave India’s spin assault more impetus. Shelling assault The 30-year-old played just the first Test of the home series against New Zealand before being ruled out of the balance of the season with his groin injury.

Meanwhile, vice-captain Gill, who averages a remarkable 58.20 in the format, may have to contend for his position at the top of the order after the selectors chose to pick Yashasvi Jaiswal as the squad’s alternative opening option. While Jaiswal has experienced a productive start to his international career and adds left-handedness to what’s an otherwise right-heavy top-order, he has yet to make his international debut in the format. He did average 54 in List A cricket with a top of 203 against Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Among the ‘keepers, India will continue to have the services of KL Rahul, who was exceptional in the past World Cup. Left-hander Rishabh Pant is the other keeper-bat in the team.

India are grouped in Group A alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. They’ll commence their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 at the Dubai International Stadium. They’ll play three ODIs against England next month, at Nagpur (February 6), Cuttack (February 9) and Ahmedabad (February 12), as tune-up to the showpiece ICC tournament.
